SUMMARY:Seamless Scaling of Applications Across Programming Models
DESCRIPTION:Reto Krummenacher (University of Basel), Quentin Guilloteau (I
nria), Jonas H. Müller Korndörfer (University of Bern), and Florina M. Cio
rba (University of Basel)\n\nWe present a comparative study of the product
ivity and performance of four programming languages: Python, Julia, C++, a
nd DaphneDSL, for the Connected Components graph algorithm from the GAP be
nchmark suite. Using various code productivity metrics, we evaluated the e
ffort of scaling applications from a local parallel version to a distribut
ed implementation. Experiments carried out on the Vega EuroHPC system reve
al that, with moderate coding effort, Julia offers the best performance, w
hile DaphneDSL enables seamless distributed execution with no code changes
 , albeit at a small performance cost.\n\nTag: Research & ACM SRC Posters\n
\nRegistration Category: Technical Program Reg Pass\n\nSession Chairs: Ken
to Sato (RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS)); Anja Gerbes (Geo
rg-August-Universität Göttingen); and Chris Schlipalius (Pawsey Supercompu
ting Research Centre; Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Orga
 nisation (CSIRO), Australia)\n\n
