SUMMARY:Visualization of Detonation Research Test Facility at Texas A&M Un
 iversity
DESCRIPTION:Jian Tao, Elaine Oran, Sina Alidoust Salimi, Britain Thomas, A
shwath Sethu Venkataraman, and Milin Martin (Texas A&M University)\n\nLoca
ted at the Texas A&M University System RELLIS Campus, the Detonation Resea
rch Test Facility (DRTF) exemplifies pioneering research, led by Dr. Elain
e Oran, a world-renowned authority on the physics of explosions. The DRTF
is dedicated to understanding the intricate dynamics of detonations, where
flammable gases and materials interact under extreme conditions to produc
e powerful and potentially devastating outcomes.\n\nAt the heart of this f
acility lies a massive steel tube, stretching 150 meters in length with a
diameter of 2 meters and reinforced by 3/4-inch thick walls. This immense
structure is designed to safely contain and replicate the magnitude of rea
l-world detonation events, providing researchers with the rare opportunity
to observe and analyze explosive phenomena at scale.\n\nComplementing thi
s experimental infrastructure, Dr. Jian Tao leads a groundbreaking initiat
ive to create a digital twin of the DRTF. This virtual replica is being de
veloped at the Texas A&M RELLIS Campus to enable near-real-time simulation
, predictive analysis, and operational optimization. By integrating high p
erformance computing and advanced visualization, the digital twin promises
to transform the way researchers model, test, and refine their understand
ing of detonation processes, enhancing both safety and scientific insight.
\n\nThe 3D model showcased here was created by Sina Alidoust Salimi and Br
itain Thomas, master’s students in the College of Performance, Visualizati
on and Fine Arts. Their contribution highlights the power of interdiscipli
nary collaboration at Texas A&M, where art, science, and technology conver
ge to advance research capabilities and safeguard future innovations.\n\nT
