SUMMARY:Extending MPI Correctness Benchmarking to the Fortran Language
DESCRIPTION:Yussur Mustafa Oraji, Alexander Hück, and Christian Bischof (T
echnical University of Darmstadt)\n\nMPI correctness benchmarks are used t
o evaluate the implementation quality of MPI correctness tools on a standa
rdized set of tests.\nHowever, existing correctness benchmarks are limited
to C, neglecting support for Fortran, the only other language which the M
PI standard supports.\nConsequently, past evaluations of correctness tools
were focused solely on C although some of them support error-checking of
Fortran MPI codes.\nTo alleviate this, we port the test generation logic o
f the most recently introduced MPI correctness benchmark MPI-BugBench to F
ortran.\nWe explore language-specific porting challenges and perform a com
parative accuracy evaluation of the dynamic MPI correctness tool MUST on b
oth C and Fortran.\nOur results show that MUST's accuracy is largely consi
stent across languages, with a notable exception in type checking due to a
required software dependency not supporting Fortran.\nAdditionally, we un
covered bugs in both the OpenMPI Fortran bindings,\nand the MPI-BugBench t
est case generator.\n\nTag: Debugging & Correctness Tools, HPC Software &
