SUMMARY:Transparent Global File System Access in Environments with Multipl
 e Authentication Domains
DESCRIPTION:J.D. Maloney (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign) and Sea
n Stevens (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)\n\nGlobal file syst
ems, whose access spans multiple systems/sub-systems within a High-Perform
ance Computing (HPC) center, are common at many institutions due to a rang
e of benefits they provide. In the vast majority of cases however, they op
erate under a single authentication domain or in more complex cases, suppo
rt multiple domains with each getting siloed data access. Recently at the
National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), we have integrated
a cluster that pushed us to engineer a solution that provides users the a
bility to seamlessly access their data, regardless of which authentication
domain the system is tied to. <br>This paper describes the design, techno
logies, and processes NCSA architected to deliver this capability to resea
rchers and shares the suggested practices we’ve discovered while operating
it. Additionally, we lay out the benefits researchers gained by us provid
ing this level of integration between the different authentication domains
at the global file system layer.\n\nRecording: Livestreamed, Recorded\n\n
