SUMMARY:Bamaa: A STEM Learning Platform for Afghan Students
DESCRIPTION:Malika Muradi (Brac university) and Ali Akbar Ahmadi (Bamaa)\n
\nDecades of conflict and poverty have devastated\nAfghanistan’s education
system, leaving curricula outdated, poor\nquality education and shorten h
uman resources. Although Gen-\nerative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) lea
rning platforms have\nseen widespread global adoption, Afghan learners rem
ain largely\nexcluded due to language barriers, limited awareness, low dig
ital\nliteracy, lack of trust, financial constraint and the situation\nwor
sened by the nationwide education ban on girls and women.\nTo address this
gap, we introduce Bamaa, a platform to\nsupport students in Afghanistan i
n improving their problem-\nsolving skills in STEM subjects. The platform
support Dari and\nPashto (Afghanistan’s native languages) , enabling an in
clusive\npersonalized learning and individual feedback and recommen-\ndati
on learning experience for students navigating educational\nbarriers cause
d by years of political instability, poverty and the\nrestrictive policies
imposed by the current regime on women.\n\nRecording: Partially Livestrea
med, Partially Recorded\n\nRegistration Category: Technical Program Reg Pa
ss, Workshop Reg Pass\n\nSession Chairs: Jessica Imlau Dagostini (Universi
ty of California, Santa Cruz); Elsa J. Gonsiorowski (Lawrence Livermore Na
tional Laboratory (LLNL)); and Mozhgan Kabiri chimeh (NVIDIA Corporation)\
