Satoshi Matsuoka
Biography
Satoshi Matsuoka has been the director of the RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS) since April 2018, developing and hosting Japan’s flagship supercomputer, Fugaku, which became the fastest supercomputer in the world in 2020.

Satoshi's longtime contributions to HPC systems research, as well as application of the results to create innovative leadership supercomputers, were commended with the Medal with Purple Ribbon by His Majesty Emperor Naruhito of Japan in 2022. Other accolades include selection as a Fellow of ACM, ISC, and JSSST; the ACM Gordon Bell Prize in 2011 and 2021; the IEEE-CS Sidney Fernbach Award in 2014; and the IEEE-CS Seymour Cray Computer Engineering Award in 2022—some of the highest awards in the field of HPC.
