Malika Muradi
Biography
My name is Malika and I am from Afghanistan. Considering the rooted patriarchy in Afghanistan, women’s education has not been an easy path to take. But I always remember how inspiring a few female leaders in Afghanistan was. They were criticised, underestimated, but also respected. Afghanistan today does not have a lot to offer for women. It does not offer but takes away their rights to educate. I am coming from a family who have not received education, but they have always been supportive of me and my sibling’s education. Today, I am the kid of those parents trying with the hope inside me to be a change maker.

I began my studies in Computer Science at Kateb University in Kabul. Unfortunately, as I was progressing toward graduation, the collapse of the Afghan government disrupted my education. Despite this setback, I never gave up. I applied to universities abroad and was eventually awarded a scholarship from BRAC University.

My journey at BRAC University has been transformative in many ways. Personally, I gained the experience of living independently in a diverse community, something entirely new to me, as I had never spent nights away from my family. Academically, I contributed to different projects and volunteered in various programs and events, which helped me expand my knowledge and professional network.

My goal is to use science to empower marginalized communities, advocate for women in technology, and uplift those who have been pushed to the margins.
