Biography
Dr. Shaikh Arifuzzaman is a Computer Science professor and researcher at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), USA. He is also a faculty affiliate with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, USA. Arifuzzaman received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Virginia Tech. He has 14+ years of experience in research and teaching in US-based universities and research labs. Dr. Arifuzzaman's research interests include algorithmic foundations of large-scale, data-intensive computing using AI/ML and high-performance computing (HPC) techniques, especially for interdisciplinary problems. At UNLV, Dr. Arifuzzaman leads the DiSC Lab that aims for discovery through data-intensive scalable computing.
Previously, Arifuzzaman held positions with Sandia National Lab (SNL), the University of New Orleans, and the Biocomplexity Institute at Virginia Tech. He is the recipient of the 2023 and 2019 US DoE SRP-HPC Fellowship. He also won first place in the Big Data Cup Challenges competition held at the 2019 IEEE Big Data Conference. Dr. Arifuzzaman's research has been supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the US Department of Energy, among others.
