Manish Bhattarai

Biography
Dr. Manish Bhattarai is a research scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), advancing adversarial machine learning, generative AI, natural language processing, and high performance computing. He received his PhD in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico in 2020 and has contributed to LANL since 2019. Manish is the creator of award-winning HPC libraries—including pyDNMFk, pyDNTNk, and pyDRESALk—which earned the prestigious R&D 100 Award for enabling scalable distributed tensor factorizations. His recent work focuses on strengthening foundation models against adversarial attacks, efficient fine-tuning of large AI systems, and agentic frameworks for code translation. He also leads efforts in applying AI to domains such as bioinformatics and cybersecurity, leveraging large-scale HPC clusters. With expertise at the intersection of machine learning and scientific computing, Manish is driving the development of trustworthy, efficient, and scalable AI at LANL.
