Biography
Dr. Xi Yang is a Network Research Engineer at the Scientific Networking Division (ESnet) of Berkeley Lab. He is currently leading the development of the SENSE orchestration system (https://sense.es.net/) and the NSF FABRIC testbed (https://whatisfabric.net) network control system. His research interest includes advanced network architecture, next-generation Internet, optical networking, large-scale network testbed and application, network middleware for science workflows, and cloud computing. He is also exploring the quantum communication and networking (https://quantnet.lbl.gov/), and the advanced wireless networking (5G/6G) areas.
Before joining the ESnet, Dr. Xi Yang was a senior research scientist and the director of R&D at the University of Maryland / Mid-Atlantic Crossroads, and also a PI and Co-PI for several research projects funded by DOE and NSF. He worked with Lucent Technologies as a member of technical staff in Bells Labs, Beijing, China in 2000. He joined University of Southern California / Information Sciences Institute as a Research Associate in 2004 and became a Computer Scientist in 2006. He received a B.S. degree in communication engineering and an M.S. degree in communication and information systems from the University of Electronic Science and Technology, China in 1997 and 2000, and a Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2004.
