Alice-Agnes Gabriel

Biography
Alice-Agnes Gabriel is an Associate Professor at UC San Diego. She is a computational seismologist combining simulations, routinely utilizing the largest supercomputers worldwide, with data-driven techniques and theoretical analysis to tackle some of the grand challenges of geosciences, such as uncovering the physical mechanisms relevant to understanding earthquakes and tsunamis, in the hope of increasing safety during and in the aftermath of these natural disasters. Her research interests include earthquake physics, fracture mechanics, wave propagation, seismic cycles and tsunami generation. She leads several community software efforts. Gabriel currently serves as President of the European Geosciences Union's Seismology Division and published >98 peer-reviewed papers, including in Nature and Science. She was named Fellow of the American Geophysical Union as the recipient of a 2023 Macelwane Medal; she also received the 2020 Charles F. Richter Early Career Award of the Seismological Society of America and the PASC Ada Lovelace Award for HPC.
