Biography
Francesc Lordan is the leader of the Programming Models for novel distributed infrastructures group of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. His research focuses on programming models that aim to ease the development of parallel applications by hiding the technical concerns of heterogeneous and distributed infrastructures.

In 2017, after defending his thesis "Programming models for mobile environments", Francesc received his PhD in Computer Architecture from Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya winning the Special Doctorate Award. Since 2010, he has been part of the Workflows and Distributed Computing group and his efforts have been focused on the COMPSs programming model: a task-based model for developing parallel applications running on heterogeneous distributed infrastructures. His contributions allowed the framework to evolve from running on cluster and supercomputers to being applied on Cloud, Edge and Fog environments. With the experience gathered during these years, Francesc is currently tackling the challenges of programming applications for novel distributed infrastructures such as the Digital Continuum or Swarms.

Currently, Francesc leads the technical efforts for developing the metakernel layer in the frame of the EU-HE ICOS project, and he is also leading the COLMENA and HP2C-DT national projects.
