Chris brings more than 26 years’ experience in IT infrastructure used for higher education and academic research purposes.

He is the manager responsible for the Pawsey Data Services Storage Infrastructure, and his experience covers designing, procuring, commissioning and managing storage and server hardware, filesystems, operating systems and hypervisors.

Chris manages a team of Storage and HSM Systems Administrators, who together, maintain, manage and ensure Data Services are provided to Pawsey researchers, who require storage of, and access to their Radio Astronomy Data Collections and Australian Research Data Collections of National Significance.

Pawsey Research Data Services provide storage and use of research data collections stored in either Acacia - a Ceph S3 distributed object storage system holding over 55PB, or in Banksia, a cold Storage Management system or HSM - (utilizing Versity ScoutAM, and 5PB ScoutFS disk cache which fronts 144PB raw Enterprise tape held in two Spectralogic T-Finity tape libraries), both systems which are accessible via s3, or REST API and the Pawsey Data Portal (Mediaflux).

The above are the result of implementation of a new HSM/Archive and new Ceph S3 disk deployment and data migration project obtained via Capital Refresh funding from the Australian Federal Government for provision of 55PB online or warm storage for research data.

Chris was an IBM Champion for a number of years due to his work on Storage and the Spectrum Scale Usergroup - working with products including Spectrum Scale (GPFS), Spectrum Protect, Spectrum Archive and Spectrum Spark.
