Bill Putman
Biography
Dr. William Putman is a research meteorologist at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Global Modeling and Assimilation Office, focusing on development of advanced numerical methods for atmospheric dynamics within NASA Earth system models, particularly the GEOS system. He specializes in algorithm optimization for high-end computing platforms.

Bill earned his PhD in meteorology from Florida State University (2007) for implementing the finite-volume dynamical core on cubed-sphere geometry, enabling efficient execution on tens of thousands of processors for peta-scale applications.

Bill collaborates across agencies to advance dynamical algorithms for global Earth system modeling, partnering with NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory, NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Sciences ModelE, and the National Center for Atmospheric Research's Community Atmosphere Model.
