Biography
Brian Austin is a member of the Advanced Technologies Group (ATG) in computational research at Berkeley Lab. His research explores the intersection of scientific computing algorithms and HPC system architecture. This work combines application profiling, performance modeling, workload analysis, and workflow analysis to understand how all levels of the hardware architecture, from core microarchitecture to processors, nodes, interconnect, and infrastructure, influence the productivity of integrated HPC systems. He has over twenty years of experience in HPC and has published more than 40 papers in this field.

Prior to joining ATG, Brian was a Petascale postdoctoral fellow at NERSC. He earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Reed College in Portland, Oregon.
