Yue Yu is a Senior Research Computing Facilitator at the University of California, Merced, with a background in computational chemistry and over 15 years of experience in academia, spanning roles as a student, researcher, and professional staff member. In her current role, she supports faculty, students, and research staff in leveraging high-performance computing (HPC) for advanced computational research. She leads the design and delivery of HPC training programs, maintains user-facing documentation, and provides one-on-one consultation to optimize workflows across disciplines.

Yue has secured NSF funding as a co-Principal Investigator for a CyberTraining project on machine learning and HPC, and contributes to expanding HPC access in California’s Central Valley through the CENVAL-ARC initiative. She is an active mentor, guiding students from historically underrepresented backgrounds in STEM, including first-generation, female, and undocumented scholars, and has supported their progression into competitive research and internship opportunities.

Her leadership philosophy emphasizes problem-solving, collaboration, and mentorship, inspired by her own mentors and refined through participation in programs such as the EDUCAUSE New Managers Institute. Yue serves on national committees, including the PEARC Student Program Committee and the ACCESS Allocations Review Committee, and regularly presents at HPC and research computing conferences. She is committed to fostering inclusive, scalable, and sustainable training approaches that lower the barrier to HPC adoption for researchers across diverse disciplines.
