Founded in 2018 by Dr. Eyal Cohen (Weizmann Institute PhD) and Professor Zeev Zalevsky
(world-renowned optics expert), CogniFiber was born from a 2017 optical neural network
breakthrough at the Weizmann Institute. The company addresses the slowdown of Moore’s Law
and surging AI compute demands by using light (photons) instead of electricity to process data.
This photonic approach enables faster and more energy-efficient computing than traditional
chips, aiming to revolutionize data center and AI infrastructure. Backed by venture funding,
CogniFiber is positioned to lead the emerging field of photonic “supercomputing” for high-
